Touchscreen Optical Treatments

Specifying a touchscreen for outdoor use, or for indoor use within the retail sector? Our capabilities allow us to optimise the PCAP touch solution for your intended use, with an industry-wide selection of optical coatings and filters available.

Boasting multiple advantages like improved readability, visibility and durability, high light transmission properties and reduced glare, our touchscreen optical enhancements ensure that your Zytronic PCAP touch solution is optimised for use.

Touchscreens with IR-reduction filters

Zytronic’s PCAP touch solutions can be specified with an infrared (IR) reduction filter for use in outdoor areas, optimising your touchscreen for use in bright light. Our IR reduction coating takes the form of a durable, optically clear hard-coated polyester filter that reduces the transmission of IR sunlight energy through the touchscreen.

This aids system thermal management, reducing the amount of cooling required and the amount of energy used in outdoor touch solutions, such as ATMs, self-service ticket kiosks or parcel drop-off points.

UV-blocking touchscreen film

When a touchscreen display is consistently exposed to bright light, the underlying display can become damaged.

Our PCAP solutions can be specified with a bespoke UV-blocking film. This protects your entire display from sun damage and aids in extending the life of the liquid crystal display (LCD) display under such conditions.

When specified in a touch sensor design, the additional custom filter we laminate onto the rear of the touchscreen will block UV wavelengths of less than 300nm, including UVB and UVC.

Why use UV blocking for touchscreens?

There are a number of advantages to using a UV-blocking film for your touchscreen. With a UV blocker, your touchscreen can:

  • retain full functionality in environments with lots of sunlight
  • offer improved visual quality
  • provide improved longevity and durability
  • guard against damage from extended exposure to ultraviolet radiation.

Our UV-blocking film is therefore perfectly suited to a range of outdoor touchscreens, such as ATMs, informational tourist kiosks and more.

Anti-glare touchscreens

As well as filters to combat IR and UV radiation, Zytronic PCAP solutions can also be specified with anti-glare coatings, ensuring maximum visibility, regardless of the amount and angle of light directed at the screen.

This is of particular use when it comes to outdoor applications, as users may struggle to accurately view your screen’s content in bright or direct sunlight. A factor which, if not considered, may mean functionality failures during times of peak brightness, ultimately leading to missed revenue.

We have the ability to produce both thermally tempered and chemically-etched, anti-glare glass, which diffuses light reflected from the front surface. This allows users to consistently view information, even when in direct light – be that sunlight or strong overhead lights, for example those found in a healthcare setting.

Our anti-glare solutions allow users’ fingers to glide easily across the screen, sometimes known as ‘low stiction.’ This improves the overall user experience in terms of tactility as well as visibility.

Anti-reflection touchscreens

Our PCAP solutions can be further enhanced by the addition of anti-reflection coatings, which ensure the function of your touchscreen is never compromised by light reflection.

This addition also helps to reduce the power consumption of the LCD by removing the need for extremely bright displays. Our anti-reflection coating reduces light reflection by around 75%, making it perfect for brightly lit environments, while maximising image clarity and crispness.

Our anti-reflection coating is suitable for a number of outdoor applications, such as:

Our anti-reflective coatings can also prevent user obstructions caused by bright artificial lights – such as those used in restaurants or commercial kitchens.

Interactive mirror touchscreens

Our interactive mirror touchscreens use a special optical coating that allows for any display to be transformed into an interactive mirror, created to suit your specific business needs.

How do interactive mirrors work?

Our interactive mirror touchscreens work by balancing light between the outside of the glass and the inside of the screen. When the light on the screen is switched off, the touch solution will look like a standard mirror.

Different levels of mirrored coatings are available depending on the amount of reflectivity required, together with the viewability of the underlying display.

What can interactive touchscreen mirrors be used for?

Interactive touchscreen mirrors can be used to provide a novel customer

  • experience in a number of applications, including:
  • retail changing rooms
  • displays at exhibitions, such as ComicCon
  • live music events
  • car showrooms.

What are the advantages of interactive touchscreen mirrors?

Interactive touchscreen mirrors carry a number of unique benefits. They:

  • offer a unique and tangible experience
  • encourage customers to share on social media, helping to spread business
  • awareness
  • help to drive sales by displaying related products
  • provide a personalised experience for enhanced customer satisfaction
  • allow interactivity for quicker access to information.

Low-iron touchscreens

Standard glass contains small amounts of iron oxide, which causes a greenish hue that increases in proportion to glass thickness. Zytronic offers PCAP solutions made using low-iron glass, sometimes called ‘water white’ glass to eradicate this greenish hue.

This ensures that the touch solution provides a faithful representation of the colours displayed on screen, which can help to further cement your brand identity.

Where enhanced transparency and image purity is required – such as in graphic design studios – low-iron touchscreens are a great option. Touch solutions made from low-iron glass allow for logos and brand colours to be truly represented, such as in this Volkswagen showroom, where brand identity is paramount.

Anti-microbial touchscreens

When hygiene is a primary concern, such as in hospitals or doctor’s surgeries, we can use Corning’s Antimicrobial Gorilla® Glass to create an anti-microbial touchscreen. These PCAP solutions are designed to prevent the spread of bacteria.

Our anti-microbial touchscreens contain an ionic silver component that greatly reduces the ability of bacteria to proliferate over time, keeping the glass clean. We can produce PCAP touch sensors using this glass, or laminate it as an additional protective layer on normal glass.

An anti-microbial coating optimises your touch solution for use in high-traffic areas and in the medical and healthcare sector.

Privacy touchscreens

We can optimise your PCAP touch solution by incorporating a privacy filter, guarding customer information from prying eyes.

Our privacy filter is a laminated polymer-based material that contains microscopically small, parallel-aligned blades (or louvres). These microscopic blades prevent the viewing of the displayed image from any other angle than head-on.

Privacy filters are particularly useful when it comes to designing ATM touchscreens and self-service touch solutions in the banking and financial sectors.
