Home > Insights > JOURNEY FROM GLASS SHEET TO TOUCH SENSOR
Various glass types are utilised to create optimal PCAP touchscreens for challenging environments. Standard soda-lime glass has a greenish hue due to iron content, while low iron glass minimises this tint for accurate colour display beneath the touchscreen.
Zytronic cuts glass to any shape or size, up to 90+ inches diagonally, and can customise PCAP touch sensors with minimal or no tooling fees. CNC machines create holes and slots for the peripherals, and add surface features to guide users. Glass can be bent for curved displays, and edges are finished for aesthetics and safety.
Graphics and logos are added using scratch-resistant ceramic inks or polymer-based inks for colour range. Special coatings enhance functionality, such as semi-transparent coatings for interactive mirrors, anti-reflective coatings for reduced glare, and anti-glare coatings for improved outdoor visibility and touch interaction.
Glass is surprisingly strong and can be toughened to pass impact tests. Zytronic offers thermally toughened glass, around five times stronger than annealed glass, and chemically strengthened glass for even greater impact resistance.
The PCAP touch sensors are assembled in clean rooms. Zytronic’s PCAP technology works with various touch inputs and rejects environmental interferences when combined with Zytronic’s ZXY500 PCAP touch controller, and is suitable for outdoor and multi-user environments.
Zytronic’s PCAP touch controllers support complex gestures and are compatible with various operating systems. The final products undergo rigorous quality checks before shipment. Zytronic provides rapid prototyping and flexible customer support, with no minimum order quantities, benefiting customers with quick and easy development of new touchscreen systems.
