Glass Shaping and Machining

Edge Profiling

Touchscreens can be ground, chamfered and radiused in different styles at their edges and corners to protect against breakage, or to create a unique design aesthetic. Additionally, the glass edges can be polished for exposed edge design touchscreens.

Hole/Slot Drilling

Increasingly, designers wish to create fully flat, seamless user interfaces, with any peripheral modules, such as credit card readers, ticket printers or NFC detectors, hidden behind the touchscreen surface. The adaptable nature of projected capacitive touch technology means that we can design and manufacture such touch sensors in a limitless range of shapes and sizes. Our 3 and 5-axis CNC equipment allows us to cut, profile, drill and shape touchscreen glass into unique forms according to the system designers wishes.

Screen Printing

Our semi-automatic screen-printing machines allows us to supply printed touch sensors up to approximately 90 inches diagonally. We can print almost any colour, if a Pantone/RAL reference number is provided. If precise colour reproduction of the Pantone is essential, we recommend the use of low Iron glass as the touchscreen substrate to minimise the greenish tint of the Iron when viewing through the sensor. We use a range of ceramic and polymer-based inks depending on whether the application requires scratch resistance (ceramic inks) or a broader palette of colours (polymer).

Thermal Bending

As displays become increasingly available in curved formats, system designs are seeking to integrate them within commercial touchscreen applications. This may be to improve usability, creating a ‘wraparound’ effect surrounding the user, or to help differentiate the overall systems appearance. Within our comprehensive glass processing facility, we have several bending ovens where glass and other touchscreen materials can be thermally moulded to specific radii according the customer requirements. The curved substrates are then converted into touch sensors within our state-of-the-art cleanrooms.
