Home > News > Industry veteran Bill Moodie retires after 30 years with Zytronic
Bill Moodie, sales director at Zytronic, has announced his retirement after a career with the company spanning three decades. His customer responsibilities for optical filters and laminated glass components will be taken over by Gregg Brown, who has been promoted to Sales Manager.
Moodie joined Zytronic – then named Romag Glass Products – in 1980 as sales manager and was promoted to sales director in 1988. Initially he oversaw the sales of standard and toughened lenses for gas masks. Zytronic subsequently became one of the world’s leading suppliers of bullet resistant glass, which was installed in vehicles used by the military as well as for secure cash carrying trucks and other applications. Customers included GKN Defence, for whom Zytronic produced glass for Saxon and Warrior armoured vehicles, Securicor and a number of specialist limousine makers.
In 1990 Zytronic began producing blast resistant visors for use in military and civilian applications. Moodie developed the sales of these products and also those of glass diffusers that were sold initially to London Underground. The latter were introduced to replace polycarbonate diffusers in the wake of the 1987 Kings Cross station fire.
Bill Moodie and his team continued to identify and target niche applications for Zytronic’s specialised glass products, expanding into areas such as anti-vandal panels for ATM’s (automated teller machines). The company developed a reputation for working closely with customers to help design the glass elements of their products.
Bill plans to relax and make the most of his new found free time.
